This award-winning dark comedy, written by American playwright Rich Orloff, explores themes of power, ambition, and workplace dynamics through a sharp and humorous lens.
I had the pleasure of attending Big Boys at the Theatre of the No, and I must say, it was an excellent experience. The actors - gave an outstanding performance, showcasing their clear preparation and delivering well-balanced dynamics throughout the show. Their chemistry on stage and the way they navigated the humor of the script truly made the play come alive.
The direction was simple yet effective, relying on classic comedic techniques and tricks that provided a solid foundation for the actors to shine. It didn’t attempt to overwhelm or reinvent the wheel but allowed the play’s humor and pacing to take center stage, which worked perfectly for the material.
What I find particularly noteworthy is that Big Boys is presented in English—a welcome addition to Athens' theatrical scene. It’s refreshing to have a venue where English-speaking plays can be enjoyed, and I hope this continues to be a trend in the city.
The venue itself adds to the experience. Theatre of the No is warm and cozy, providing an intimate setting that brings the audience closer to the performance. It's a perfect spot for enjoying an evening of theater in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
Overall, Big Boys is a thoroughly enjoyable play, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a smart, well-acted comedy in English in Athens.
